I don't know who is using who anymore. Just read a 241 page deposition Sibel Edmonds (former FBI) gave in 2009. She spoke a lot about Turkey bribing congressman and senators; the U.S. funding Muslum terror groups all over the world; NATA runing Heroin on their planes into Belguim; our nuclear secrets and other weapons technologies being sold to the highest bidder by currupt people in the RAND Corporation and in our universities; and on and on and on it goes.

The wealthy, who control the levers of power, are pitting everyone against everyone to accomplish their ends . . . whatever the hell those are. Religion is certainly A problem, but it isn't the only one we have. I'm not sure where to even look for the truth sometimes. I do know that I see a lot of senseless human suffering.

Thank you Luis for a well written piece. Informative as always.

Christian Church was born in Pentecost. The epistles of Paul, James, Peter, John and Jude are enough to present what christianity is. The gospels tell us who was Jesus and which were his teachings. The influence of paganism enter later, when the church depart from the teachings of the apostles.

There are false dates, as the 311 for the edict of Milan, that really was on 313. The influence of Mithraism was on the christians on Constantine times and earlier, together with the sunday worship day. Today you can see the shadow of Mithraism in catholic rituals. But the true christianity is clean from such rites. Just follow what Bible says.

Whoever wrote this article is sick and full of lies. I almost sounds as if it was written by a member of the Chinese Government. They sprerad many lies about Dalai Lama in hope to discredit him, but they will not succeed. The TRUTH always makes itself known to those are listen with a pure heart.

Thanks! I'm actually against most of the compulsory programs because they're forced on us... It's an interesting point about the kids, though.

The Amish don't use power tools, unless of course they hire out to work on non-Amish projects. If they can exempt themselves from their own rules and laws, why shouldn't the government exempt them from its rules and laws?

Interesting and thought provoking articles. I came to this after listening to your Buddhism and the Bomb podcast - I fully agree that the west often extend courtesies to Eastern religion that wouldn't be granted to Abrahamic faiths.

A couple of counter points and other things which should be noted though; in a couple of your articles you refer to Buddhist 'God-experts', and in your podcast you hint that the Buddha was touted as a God by his followers. This is not the case; Buddhism is atheistic. There may be some sects which blur the boundaries somewhat, (the Tibetan sects blended the indiginous Bon religion and some Hinduism to arrive at their Mahayana schools) but most scholars would agree that Buddhism is clearly marked by having no creator God.

Similarly, you refer to reincarnation. There is no reincarnation in Buddhism, rather Buddhist schools which teach on this subject teach 'rebirth'. This is a subtle but important distinction; there is no concrete, independent soul going from life to life, but rather a subtle transmission of life-energies. This may seem pedantic, but this terminology really needs to be correct and a full understanding of it to be had if one is going to act as a critique of the religion!

Back to the article(s); what we see here - imo - is what we see with many mass movement based on an idealogy; an unwieldy, decentralised bunch of interests all operating under the same banner. Shame, as in its stripped down, 'rational', (some would say original) form, Buddhism is a philosophy that is really relevant to the modern age.
